For the most part, they take your work, and print it. When I started doing business (again) with Paula at Granite Print, I felt a huge sense of relief, that not only was I getting a reliable printer, but also a second hand in my business. I like to design my own products for the most part, but have depended on Paula's expertise in design, color and printing to help guide me through the projects. She goes above and beyond and lends a personal touch to our business relationship that I've never experienced- she makes me feel as if I'm the only client that she has, and gives me her undivided attention. She meets me more than halfway when I need samples, in parking lots of bookstores to exchange proofs and discs countless times. She has overnighted me without blinking an eye when I need something in a hurry, and has even dropped off products personally to my house. Some specific instances of when they "saved me"... The initial proofs of my full-color illustrated books came out horrendous- the colors were off, due to the way the illustrator colored in the artwork. There was basically an inconsistency in the illustrator's and the printer's color schemes. Paula took control immediately and reassured me that they could "fix it." To a non-printer, this was such a relief, I couldn't imagine what could possibly make them look better! Paula and Russell worked with the illustrator for countless hours to help change his methods, and bring the color process together between printer and illustrator. The result? a fabulous piece of work, with the colors beautiful, and the illustrator is now doing the rest of my books with this same method. When it was time to review the proofs of my books using this new coloring method ( we weren't totally sure of the end result), Paula dedicated 1 whole day driving to the other side of the state to guide the printer through the process, stood with me at the machine, and step by step they explained the process of how the pages would be printed, and colored, etc. They made me feel as if I was actually participating in the process before the proofs were actually printed. Paula patiently waited with me there for hours, while the printer was getting his machines set up and even longer to print the proofs for me to review. Never complaining, always smiling, trying to take care of other business in between, Paula didn't make me feel like I was any bother. The result, my books came out great, and I was put at ease in their process as I saw it first hand. Another printer would have said to just drop off the work and they'd print it. If it didn't come out right, it was my fault. Basically, I don't feel like I'm going it alone in my printing needs. When I had a question about ISBN #'s for books, Russell came up with a resource for me. Granite Print partners with you in the creation and printing process from beginning to end, if you want it. Your brochures, displays, and other items are your image, and having confidence in your printer is very important. Having a personal relationship with the people behind the scenes has given me a peace of mind that is invaluable, when it comes to my printing needs.
